Terms of use, in plain English.

Short. Honest. Written by the person who will have to defend them later.

§ 01 · what Smartopol is

A piece of software you install on your own hardware. It uses AI model providers of your choosing to do work. It stores its memory on your disk. It is made by one person, supported by Smartopol LLC, and currently in beta.

§ 02 · beta software

This is a beta. Things can break. Bugs exist. When you report one, it gets attention. When you encounter one that costs you time, we regret it but cannot compensate you for it. Beta means beta — use it with that in mind.

§ 03 · your content and your data

Everything you type, store, and generate is yours. The binary does not upload it. When you connect to a model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, a local model, etc.) and send a prompt, that provider's terms apply to what happens next. Read their terms. We don't control them.

§ 04 · acceptable use

The usual honest list. Don't use Smartopol to:

§ 05 · the license

The binary is free to use. The source is closed. The full terms are on the license page, and the reasoning is in the letter.

§ 06 · no warranty, no liability

Smartopol is provided as-is, with no warranties. The maintainer and Smartopol LLC are not liable for damages arising from its use. This is standard for software distributed this way — the same clause exists in every open-source license you've ever accepted.

§ 07 · changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, it gets a note on the letter page and an email to the beta list. No silent changes.
