license · plain english

The license, in plain English.

The short version. The long, founder-letter version lives at /why-closed-source.

§ 01 · what you can do
§ 02 · what you can't do
§ 03 · source review

Source access isn't automatic. Email me with who you are and what you want to audit. If you're a security researcher or a compliance team evaluating Smartopol for adoption, the answer is almost always yes — a simple NDA, no lawyers, no money. If you're trying to build a competitor, it's no. Middle cases get a real answer, not a form letter. Email hello@smartopol.ai with the subject Source review under NDA.

§ 04 · if Smartopol LLC disappears

If the company behind Smartopol ceases operating, the last released binary is granted a perpetual license with offline activation. This is written into the LLC's operating agreement, not just promised on a website. Your install will keep working.

§ 05 · warranty

The software is provided as-is. No warranty. No liability for damages arising from use. Same clause every open-source license has — the fact that Smartopol is closed-source doesn't change how this part works. You're running software on your machine. You accept the risk of that.

Last updated: April 2026. If any of the above changes, the letter gets a new section explaining why.
